PM leaves for US

PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar left Trinidad and Tobago yesterday for Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to attend the funeral service of a family member, the Office of the Prime Minister stated in a release.

She is expected to return to the country on Thursday evening.

“Before flying out at 12.30 p.m., the Prime Minister met with several of her ministers and parliamentary colleagues at the Diplomatic Lounge at Piarco International Airport,” the release added. 

Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran will act as prime minister in Persad-Bissessar’s absence.

He is the fourth person to act as prime minister for the year so far.

Labour Minister Errol McLeod, Legal Affairs Minister Prakash Ramadhar and Infrastructure Minister Dr Suruj Rambachan have also acted as prime minister for 2014 so far.
