MEMBER of Parliament for La Brea Fitzgerald Jeffery declared the People’s National Movement (PNM) was prepared to contest a general election.
Jeffery said he was not surprised by the landslide victory of Dr Keith Rowley and his slate over “Team Penny”, led by Pennelope Beckles-Robinson, in the party’s internal elections on Sunday.
And he was confident the PNM was now prepared to work together in the interest of the country.
Speaking to the media at a protest in La Brea on Monday, Jeffery said: “That was expected. I have nothing against Ms Beckles-Robinson. She is a good person. It is just that Dr Keith Rowley is the superior candidate. I don’t see the big issue over it.”
Jeffery said Rowley’s track record, experience, knowledge and wisdom proved he was the right person for the job.
He said PNM members were ready to mobilise and work towards success in the general election when it is called by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Rowley contested the
position of political leader against Beckles-Robinson.
Jeffery said the internal elections strengthened the PNM.
“I have been in Parliament for a while and this thing about vindictiveness is not something I know I can associate with Dr Rowley...I think that is one of the hallmarks of Dr Rowley....
“I can see Dr Rowley and Ms Beckles-Robinson and the whole team coming together and getting ready because we have the bigger picture to look at.”
