PNM wins all six Pt Fortin seats, says EBC
The People’s National Movement (PNM) has won all six seats in the Point Fortin Corporation. This was confirmed yesterday, as final count of the two outstanding polling stations was complete.
The mix-up in ballot papers by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) had led to a suspension of voting at two polling stations on Monday, and the holding of the polls at those stations on Tuesday.
PNM officials yesterday stated the Point Fortin, Port of Spain, Diego Martin and San Juan/Laventille Corporations would have four PNM aldermen.
The PNM margin of victory in these corporations was so wide that no other party received 25 per cent of the votes cast—which is the minimum percentage required to get at least one alderman.
In San Fernando, officials said the PNM is likely to get two of the four aldermen, with the other two going to the Congress of the People (COP).
In Arima, the PNM is due to get two aldermen, with the COP and the Independent Liberal Party receiving one each. Officials were still awaiting the final numbers for Tunapuna/Piarco and Sangre Grande from the EBC.
