POS man shot in neck, back

BESSON Street detectives are probing an incident in which a 22-year-old resident of Nelson Street, Port of Spain was shot in the neck and back near his home.

Jubari Robe, police said, was shot by unknown assailants while at the corner of Nelson and Duke Streets around 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Residents responding to the sound of loud explosions found Robe on the roadway in a pool of blood.

The police and officials from the Emergency Health Services were called to the scene and Robe was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was treated and is now warded in serious condition.

In an unrelated incident, a man from Thomasos Trace, Diego Martin, was detained by police after he went to the Port of Spain General Hospital to seek medical attention for an injury to his hand.

The suspect, police said, told doctors he was attacked by another man with a concrete block but upon examining the injury, doctors realised he had been shot and notified the police. Western Division detectives went to the hospital where they interviewed the suspect and later conducted a search at his home where they found a quantity of ammunition.

Police said they were not sure of the circumstances under which the suspect was shot.

Investigations are continuing into the incident.
