Pastor held in police exercise
A pastor is among 23 persons who were arrested on Thursday night following police exercises in the Central and Eastern divisions.
In the Central Division, a party of officers, led by Sgt Figaro, with assistance from Cpl Ramsaran and other officers of the Cunupia CID and Central Division Task Force, conducted an exercise in the Cunupia district between 10 p.m. on Thursday, and 6 a.m. yesterday.
Two persons were held with narcotics; one man was held with more than $100,000 in electronic items, allegedly stolen from an electronics store in Cunupia; two were held for allegations of wounding with intent; and the others, including the pastor, were held on outstanding warrants.
Police said that most of the arrested persons are expected to be placed on identification parades before they are charged and brought to court.
In the Eastern Division, officers of the Sangre Grande Traffic Unit, under the supervision of Sgt Sookdeo, conducted road traffic exercises at strategic points along Eastern Main Road between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thursday, and a total of 45 fixed penalty notices were issued to motorists in violation of traffic regulations.—Alexander Bruzual
