Pathologist in court for assault

By Alexander Bruzual

Pathologist Hughvon Des Vignes appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate yesterday morning on allegations of assault.

The pathologist appeared before Magistrate Carl Quamina in the Third Court.

He was represented by defence attorney Giselle Russell, while the State was represented by police prosecutor Sgt Sookeram.

It was alleged that on December 2 last year, at Forensic Science Centre in St James, Des Vignes did assault forensic pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov.

Des Vignes pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Russell asked the court for disclosure, however, Sgt Sookeram informed the court that the State was unable to facilitate the request at the time as the relevant files on the matter were still in transit to his office.

The matter is expected to resume on September 11.

Defence attorney Richard Mason represented the interests of Dr Alexandrov.

Sgt Ragbir was the complainant in the matter.
