Penny’s party cancelled

...joins Rowley at PNM bash

A fund-raising concert at the Hotel Normandie towards the election campaign of Pennelope Beckles-Robinson was cancelled this week.
Radio advertisements indicated the $500 show, entitled “A night of Legends Showcase Jam”, was to be held on Tuesday night Under the Trees at the Normandie in St Ann’s.
Artistes listed to perform were Pelham Goddard and Roots, Baron, Denyse Plummer, Black Stalin, Drupatee, Chucky and 5Star Akil.
Efforts to contact Beckles-Robinson yesterday as to why the event was cancelled proved futile.
Beckles-Robinson will be challenging Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley at the People’s National Movement’s (PNM) internal election on May 18.
The PNM held its annual Carnival fete on Monday at Balisier House in Port of Spain where Rowley and other party members partied the night away.
Beckles-Robinson was also present and interacted with patrons.
There was a healthy attendance at the PNM fete, given that soca star Machel Montano held his annual megaconcert “Machel Monday”, which attracted thousands of people.
Patrons were treated to a string of live performances from Bunji Garlin (Ian Alvarez), Fay-Ann Lyons and the Viking family; Shurwayne Winchester and his band Y.O.U; Lord Nelson; Cro Cro (Weston Rawlins); Iwer George; and Blaxx (Rodney LeBlanc).
Calypso Rose (McCartha Lewis) delighted patrons with a surprise performance as she was in the front of the crowd when Lord Nelson called out to her to come to the stage. She belted out a song and thrilled with a few dance moves.
