Pensioner raped minutes into 2013

By Carolyn Kissoon

A 71-year-old woman was brutally raped in an attack at her home, shortly after she ushered in the new year on Tuesday.

Police said the woman, a pensioner, was awakened by a knock at her door at 12.10 a.m.

The elderly woman, who lives in Claxton Bay, opened the front door and was attacked by a man, who flung a blanket over her head.

The man pushed the woman inside the house and dragged her into the bedroom.

She was sexually assaulted.

Police said the suspect then ran out of the house and escaped.

Neighbours heard the woman's screams and contacted the police, who were still searching for the suspect last evening.
