Pensioner robbed outside Penal bank

By Susan Mohammed

A PENAL pensioner was robbed of $10,000 as he exited a bank at Penal last Wednesday.

The pensioner, of Syne Village, told police around 10.35 a.m. he had just withdrawn the cash and placed it in a brown envelope.

The victim said within moments of leaving the bank, a thief snatched the envelope and ran off.

Police believe the pensioner was followed and warned other pensioners not to secure their cash and valuables on the streets.

In an unrelated incident, a 32-year-old La Romaine businessman was robbed by armed thieves of nearly $8,000 in cash and cigarettes.

Jason Forbes, of Temple Street, told police that around 12.50 p.m. last Wednesday he was conducting business when two men entered and held him up at gunpoint.

Forbes said he was robbed of $7,900 cash and a quantity of cigarettes and the thieves escaped in a waiting vehicle.
