GUNMEN shot and killed a Petit Valley man on Friday night, bringing the country’s murder toll for the year so far to 76.

The dead man has been identified as 35-year-old Abewole Roberts who lived at Parliament Drive.

Police reports state that at around 11.15 p.m., residents at Duval Avenue, Diego Martin, heard the sound of gunfire in the area and later saw a silver Nissan Almera car speeding along the roadway.

A report was made to police following which a team of officers led by Insp Thomas and including PC Khan and WPC Riley visited the area and carried out a search.

Police said they later found Roberts lying in the yard of a resident with several gunshot wounds about the body.

He was placed in the police vehicle and taken to the St James hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers said they have classified the murder as gang-related as Roberts was well known to them.

Homicide detectives are continuing investigations into the incident.
