Photo and flowers for Akeem’s memorial stolen

A MEMORIAL honouring late international footballer Akeem Adams placed in front of his alma mater Presentation College in San Fernando, was desecrated by thieves earlier this week.

The memorial consisted of a framed photograph of Adams, a bouquet of flowers and candles placed near the entrance of the secondary school. The items were stolen within hours of being set up.

President of the Presentation College Past Pupils Association, Steven Samlalsingh, said yesterday that the memorial was the idea of the mother of a schoolmate of Adams.

“In less than a day it was gone”, said Samlalsingh. “But we have gotten another picture of Akeem and set up another memorial underneath a mango tree in the car park of the school. We want when the pupils come out to school next week to be able to see it and remember him.”

Samlalsingh said the association’s executive was already discussing setting up a sports scholarship in Adams’ name at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). Samlalsingh said the matter is to be discussed with UTT’s Senior Manager of Sports and Recreation, Daren Ganga.

Samlalsingh also said the association was attempting to host a memorial football match with the current Presentation College football team and the school football team that Adams played in during his time at the college.
