A SIPARIA housewife was ordered by the court yesterday to pay over $40,000 in fines and compensation for stealing cows and piglets she kept on her property.
The 43 year old woman, of Boodoo Trace, appeared last week before Magistrate Joanne Connor in the Siparia Magistrates' Court charged with larceny cattle and larceny farm animals.
She pleaded guilty and was yesterday sentenced.
On May 21, Erin Farms Ltd at Erin reported 32 piglets missing, while on July 3 the management of Eric Miller and Company Ltd at Erin reported the theft of three cows.
Police said they went to the woman's home and recovered 20 piglets and the cows.
Constable Sookhoo laid the charges.
Magistrate Connor fined the woman $6,000 for the cows, and ordered she pay $24,000 in compensation. She was also fined $6,000 for the piglets and ordered to pay $5,250 compensation to the owner.
