A brazen gunman shot a Gasparillo plumber dead in his bed mere metres away from his family on Monday.
Indar Phulsingh, 49, of Caratal Road, was shot multiple times, while his five-day-old nephew slept in another bedroom.
Phulsingh’s family said they are scared for their lives since the killer knows the inside of their home and went directly into the man’s room to kill him.
Police said yesterday that they have not found a motive for the killing, and relatives said Phulsingh never spoke of threats on his life.
Relatives told police the killing happened at around 10.15 p.m. when a man dressed in black and wearing a mask over his face entered the house.
Phulsingh’s sister-in-law, Debbie Phulsingh, said the front door was open because family members who live in the house had just returned from purchasing fast food.
“It was like a scene from a movie the way things happened suddenly. We were eating KFC. My brother-in-law, Steve, was on the couch watching television, and his brother, Jagdeo, was standing in the kitchen. Steve said he saw a man walk into the house and look in the corner, then looked at him and he went straight to Indar’s room. He saw the man turn the knob on the door but it was locked. So the man kicked down the door. I was in another room and I heard about four or five gunshots. My daughter had her newborn baby in the bedroom next to Indar, and all she could do was hold the child and bawl out,” said Debbie Phulsingh.
She said Phulsingh’s brother ran out of the house and hid behind a wall, and watched as the gunman ran through the front door and escape into bushes opposite the house.
Phulsingh’s relatives placed him in a van, while mobile patrol officers responded and escorted them to the Couva District Health Facility.
Phulsingh was pronounced dead on arrival.
