THE body of a man found dead near the Caroni Bird Sanctuary last Thursday has been identified as that of 48-year-old Ganesh Dhaniram.
He was a building contractor.
According to the police, sometime last Wednesday, Dhaniram left his Boundary Road, San Juan home to attend an event and had not been seen alive by relatives since.
Police believe that Dhaniram was robbed of his Toyota Corolla Fielder, then shot once to the head, after which his body was weighted down with two bricks and thrown into the Caroni River. Police said although his death appears to have been a robbery, they were questioning why the people who killed him would go to such lengths to hide his body.
Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.
