Swift work by officers from the Tunapuna CID resulted in the arrest of three young men mere moments after they robbed a businessplace in Tunapuna.
According to police reports, at about 9.45 a.m. on Monday, eight persons were inside a popular furniture store along the Eastern Main Road in Tunapuna, when three men stormed into the building, brandishing what appeared to be a hand gun, and announced a hold-up.
The men ordered the eight persons onto the floor and proceeded to relieve the men and women of a quantity of cash, jewelry, cellular phones and other valuable items.
An alert pedestrian, who observed the commotion inside the building, contacted the police. A party of officers from the Tunapuna CID, including Sgt Garcia, PCs Joseph and Andrews, with assistance from the Crime Patrol Unit, responded.
As the officers pulled in front of the business place, the three suspects were observed exiting the building.
On seeing the police, the men attempted to flee the scene. The officers gave chase and the suspects were eventually caught.
The officers recovered all the stolen items and seized a “toy firearm” from one of the suspects.
The three detained men, said to be aged 19, 24 and 25, all from Arouca, were expected to be placed on identification parades yesterday before being brought before a Tunapuna magistrate.
The actions of the officers involved have been heavily praised by senior officials in the division, who commended their juniors for their “brave and outstanding” work.
Investigations are continuing.
