Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a retired inspector of police, who allegedly killed himself on Tuesday night at his Mt Hope home.
According to police reports, at about 9 p.m., officers of St Joseph Police Station received a report that a man had killed himself while sitting on his couch.
The officers made their way to Apartment Building One, along Greg Ale Drive, Mt Hope, where they met a 60-year-old woman who told investigators that her husband was dead.
The woman told police at about 8.30 p.m. she was in her bedroom when she heard a loud explosion coming from the living room.
Upon checking, she found her husband, 56-year-old Jules George, lying on his back in a pool of blood on the couch.
George, police said, had a gunshot wound to the right side of his face and a firearm was found resting on his stomach.
A district medical officer was contacted and the body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre, where an autopsy was expected to be done.
Police said George was a retired police inspector, who provided security services at the Parliament and also the United States Embassy.
