Police probe gutted house

Police are investigating a fire in Debe which destroyed a house on Wednesday. 

A police report said, at around 1.15 p.m. a loud explosion was heard coming from the house at Debe Trace. Police were told that flames were observed on the roof of the house. 

The house is located on the upper floor, and a church and hairdressing salon are located on the ground floor police said.   

An alarm was raised, and fire tenders from the Mon Repos and Siparia Fire Stations responded and extinguished the blaze. 

Police officers of the San Fernando Police Station also visited the scene. 

Police were told that the house, which is owned and occupied by Sookdeo Ramsaran, 53, a vendor. He was not at home when fire broke out. The report said the building was supplied with water and electricity but was not insured. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
