WESTERN DIVISION detectives are currently investigating two murders that occurred between Friday night and Saturday evening.
The first incident occurred sometime around 10 p.m. on Friday when a group of men were seen pursuing a man through the Cocorite area. Police described the man as a well-known drug addict.
Neighbours who saw the man being chased telephoned the police and officers responded but the neither the man nor his attackers were seen.
Yesterday morning at 10 a.m., residents were walking through a track in the area when they stumbled on the body of the man.
The police were called and after the scene was examined the body was moved to the Port of Spain Mortuary.
A post mortem will only be performed when the man’s relatives positively identify him.
The other murder occurred at Upper Mercer Road, Diego Martin.
Police said that around 11 p.m. on Saturday a group of men were playing cards in an open yard when three gunmen ran in.
All the other card players ran off but the victim, aged 56, known only as “Cow Man,” was shot several times.
He died on the spot.
Police said they were unable to arrive at a motive why the middle-aged man was killed as he was not known to be in anything illegal.
Homicide Bureau investigators are continuing enquiries into both incidents.
The year’s murder toll stood at 134 up to last night, according to an Express tally.
