Police destroy $1m worth in ganja plants

By Susan Mohammed

NE MILLION dollars worth of marijuana trees were eradicated during a police exercise in the Rio Claro forest yesterday.

The fully grown trees were ready to be harvested for sale in the illegal drug trade, police said.

Police of the Southern Division, headed by ASP Zamsheed Mohammed and Superintendent Maynard, led officers of the Southern Division Task Force to a forested area at Tabaquite Road where the trees were found.

The police went to the area between 8 a.m. and noon at an area known as Brickfield and observed some 1,000 fully grown trees planted in the forest.

The trees were cut down and destroyed by the police team.
