POLICE shot and wounded a man, and recovered a .38 Colt revolver and a quantity of marijuana, during an exercise in the San Juan area on Saturday.
The suspect, a 32-year-old from Quarry Road, San Juan, was up to yesterday evening in custody at the Morvant Police Station. He is expected to be charged some time this week.
The exercise, which took place along Quarry Road, was headed by Sgt Roger Alexander and included Cpls Sunil Bharath and Kevin Franktom along with PCs Collin Furlonge, Trevor Rambaran and other members of the North Eastern Division Task Force.
Police said they were on patrol around 3 p.m., when the man, upon spotting them, started to run.
Officers said they called out to him and ordered him to stop, but instead, he pulled out a firearm and pointed it in the direction of the police. In turn, one of the officers shot at the suspect, hitting him in the left thigh.
The revolver loaded with two rounds of ammunition, along with 292 grammes of marijuana, was found in the man's possession, police said.
He was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope, where he was treated and eventually discharged.
