Police to meet with victims' families

Three killed in Sea Lots accident

INVESTIGATIONS into last month's accident which claimed the lives of a mother and her two daughters and seriously injured three in Sea Lots are ongoing and police are expected to meet with the victims' families today.

The accident occurred on the morning of February 24 when a Toyota Corolla driven by an off-duty police officer slammed into six people as they stood on a pavement along the Beetham Highway near Production Drive.

The three killed were, Hadey Paul and her daughters, Akasha and Shakira Paul.

The three injured were Amanda Lalla, Abbigail Assing and Ryan Rampersad.

Both Lalla and Assing have since been discharged from the Port of Spain General Hospital.

One of the victims, Ryan Rampersad however reportedly remains 98 per cent paralysed at the Port of Spain General Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to a television news report last night.

Pearl James, Rampersad's mother told reporters that her son sometimes opens his eyes but he does not say much.

Police in the meantime said that their investigation was nearing completion but they did not want to discuss the fate of the police officer who remains unidentified since this accident occurred. —GG
