ToolsPraise pours in for PM’s stance
SUPPORT streamed in yesterday for Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in the wake of the Section 34 controversy, during which she fired St Joseph MP Herbert Volney as Minister of Justice.
Statements from UNC constituency offices supporting Persad-Bissessar’s decision were sent yesterday—among them Fyzabad, Couva North, Lopinot West, Moruga/Tableland and from the UNC arm of Port of Spain South/Laventille/St Ann’s North, a seat not held by the People’s Partnership. The UNC Couva North executive stated that Persad-Bissessar “heeded the call of the people” and had shown strength and integrity. The Fyzabad Constituency executive said Persad-Bissessar had proven herself to be “the only leader willing and able to make tough decisions in the interest of the people”. A simple statement of support came from POS South, Laventille yesterday: “We, the members of the Port of Spain South, Laventille West, St Ann’s North constituency, give 100 per cent support and stand firm behind our Prime Minister, in all her decisions that she makes, with God’s guidance.” Similar words came from Moruga/Tableland. Lopinot/Bon Air West stated that Persad-Bissessar has shown “statesman-like qualities” and has introduced the country to a new era of politics. |
