THE ASJA Girls' College in San Fernando yesterday hosted its first annual art exhibition.
San Fernando Mayor Dr Navi Muradali was the main guest for the event and he congratulated the school on "a job well done".
He said the San Fernando City Corporation will continue to support similar events and he invited the school to participate in the upcoming Green Expo to be hosted at Skinner Park.
Principal Cindy Khan said all involved worked hard to make the exhibition successful including the two art teachers Gail Cardinez and Zorida Baksh.
She said the exhibition "was a testament of hard work, talent and commitment."
Khan said last September, the school had, for the first time, three form six pupils registering to pursue Art at the advanced level.
Valini Samaroo, a form five art pupil, said, "Art is my passion. For my pieces I tried to incorporate local culture in the art forms and each piece took a different amount of time to complete."
Her parents, Krishna and Chandra Samaroo, who attended, said they were proud of their daughter and supported and encouraged her in whatever way they could.
