Prakash to act as Justice Minister

Legal Affairs Minister Prakash Ramadhar is holding the portfolio of Justice Minister until Tobagonian attorney Christlyn Moore takes over this week as Justice Minister.

People's Partnership House of Representatives leader Dr Roodal Moonilal advised yesterday that the swearing in of Moore as Minister of Justice has been "deferred at her request".

Moore, who was appointed last Thursday by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar as a replacement for fired Minister Herbert Volney, was "tying up ends" last week at her Port of Spain law chambers, a source told the Express.

Moore is expected to be sworn in Tuesday or Wednesday.

In a statement yesterday, Moonilal said that Moore's swearing-in was deferred to "facilitate the necessary arrangements that would allow for a smooth transition in a manner consistent with her professional commitments and obligations to her clients as an attorney at law in private practice".

In the interim, the ministerial portfolio of the Minister of Justice has been "temporarily reassigned" to Ramadhar, he added.
