Pregnant woman stabs relative to death during fight

night of drinking: Shedrick Toppin

Mark Fraser

A 38-year-old man was stabbed to death early yesterday morning during a fight with a pregnant relative at their Chaguanas apartment.

Police said the incident happened at 1.30 a.m. yesterday when the victim, Shedrick Toppin, arrived at his Gail Trace, Palmiste, Chaguanas, home.

Police were told he had been consuming puncheon rum on Friday evening.

Police said Toppin began banging on  the apartment’s front door, demanding to be let in.

Police said he kicked in the front door and was about to attack the woman when she told him to stay away.

He apparently paid no attention and she stabbed him once to the chest.

The Sunday Express visited the area yesterday and spoke with neighbours.

They said Toppin, the relative and three other people started living in the area about a month ago.

“Gail Trace is a calm place because nothing like this happens here,” a neighbour said.

She said they heard screams coming from the apartment and contacted the Chaguanas police.

When the police arrived, along with an ambulance, they took Toppin to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The woman was taken into police custody and up to last night was assisting officers with their investigation.
