Prisoners fight in High Court

By Keino Swamber keino.swamber@trinidadexpress.com

POLICE officers had to quickly intervene to break up a fight between two prisoners in the Port of Spain High Court Tuesday.

According to an eyewitness one of the prisoners, who is currently on remand awaiting retrial on a charge of murder, allegedly committed in 2005, started arguing with Justice Devan Rampersad about the lengthy wait to have his matter started.

Rampersad had adjourned the matter to October 11 for a status hearing. Another prisoner, whose matter is engaging the attention of a judge and jury, attempted to pacify the angry man but received a cuff to his face. Both men started fighting in the prisoner's enclosure.
