Protected morocoys rescued from market

By Carolyn Kissoon

Five morocoys were rescued by game wardens at the Marabella market yesterday.

The animals were hidden inside the tray of a van, among the fruits and vegetables being sold at the facility.

Police said a team of game wardens, led by Andy Singh, Richard Ramlogan and five new members, went to the Marabella market around 1.10 p.m.

The game wardens found the morocoys on sale at $500 each.

A 53-year-old man was arrested and taken to Marabella Police Station.

He was charged with offering the protected animals for sale under the Conservation of Wildlife Act.

The morocoys were seized and taken to the police station.

The South Oropouche man will appear before a San Fernando Magistrate this morning.
