Quarry companies to fix Arima roads

Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, Arima MP Rodger Samuel, met last week with representatives of the Hermitage Limestone Quarries Ltd, National Quarries Co Ltd, DIPCON Engineering Services and SIS Ltd along with Roger Ganesh, Director of Highways, at his constituency office, where it was agreed that these quarries will partner with the Ministry of Works' Highways Division to provide aggregate free of charge to repair roads in Arima and its environs.

This initiative gives quarry owners operating in the Arima area an opportunity to give back to the community that hosts their operations while ensuring the road infrastructure of Arima is maintained, a news release said.

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure will now conduct the necessary surveys and feasibility studies to determine the quantity of material needed for this project.

Hermitage Limestone Quarries Ltd has agreed to provide aggregate to repair roads located in the Heights of Guanapo and La Retreat Road (Dump Road) while National Quarries, SIS Ltd and DIPCON Engineering will provide aggregate to repair six miles on the Blanchisseuse Road.

Samuel said he appreciated the action of the quarry owners who agreed to the initiative and added that he intends to hold similar discussions with trucking companies operating from these quarries to provide the necessary transport services to ensure the success of this project.
