A 31-YEAR-OLD rape suspect who was arrested after he attempted to meet his victim to go on a date is expected to appear in court this week.

The man was arrested on Monday in Chaguanas, two days after he raped a Freeport woman, whom he had offered a lift home.

The suspect was in police custody yesterday and expected to appear in an identification parade.

The victim told police, on Saturday at around 3 a.m., she was standing on Solomon Hochoy Highway near Tarouba, after being abandoned by her boyfriend.

The woman said she was seeking transportation home when the suspect, driving a white Nissan B14 Sentra, pulled up and offered her a lift. But instead of taking her home, the man went to an isolated area of Carlsen Field where he had sex with her against her will. The suspect then gave the victim his cell phone and promised to contact her.

He took her to Freeport and she made a report to the police.

She was advised by the officers to wait for the suspect to contact her, which he did on Monday. The victim followed the advice of the police and arranged a date with the suspect.

Officers set up a sting operation with the victim and the man was arrested at a fast food outlet in Chaguanas that afternoon.
