Repeat offender gets 18 months for ganja

A MAN with 37 convictions was yesterday sentenced to 18 months in jail for trafficking in marijuana.

Joseph Jagroop, 40, attempted to conceal the bag containing the marijuana as he walked along Bonne Aventure Road, Gasparillo, around December 22, last year.

But officers found the illegal substance after they stopped and searched him.

Jagroop was charged by PC Jerod Tambie.

He initially said he was not guilty of the offence but changed his plea before San Fernando Magistrate Lisa Ramsumair-Hinds yesterday.

Jagroop's criminal record included 37 convictions spanning ten years. These were for housebreaking and larceny and narcotics related offences.

Ramsumair-Hinds sent him to jail for a year and six months.
