Rio Claro straightener found dead in bedroom

A 45-year-old tradesman, who lived upstairs his business place, was found dead by a customer yesterday.

Krishna Sookdeo, a straightener and painter, was found lying on a mattress covered in blood around 9 a.m.

Police said Sookdeo, of Cadiz Road, Rio Claro, suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators believe the motive was robbery, as a large sum of cash was reportedly missing from Sookdeo’s house.

Sookdeo, who lived alone, was last seen alive on Thursday around 5 p.m.

Police said a customer arrived yesterday and found Sookdeo’s garage gate locked. He opened the gate and called out to him.

The customer told police he walked up the stairs and saw Sookdeo’s feet protruding from a bedroom door.

He found Sookdeo lying on the bloodied mattress.

A team of officers, led by ASP Odette Lewis and officers from Rio Claro Police Station, visited the scene.

The body was removed to Forensic Science Centre in St James.

Homicide detectives are investigating.
