TWO suspected thieves who used a toy gun to rob a woman of thousands of dollars in cash and items were arrested by police on Wednesday night.
The suspects—a 23-year-old man of Penco Lands, Enterprise, Chaguanas, and a 20-year-old man of Tobago Road, Chaguanas were arrested hours after the robbery.
According to a police report, at around 8 p.m., the woman was on Main Road, Chaguanas, when she boarded a Nissan Almera car with a driver and passenger. She told police she asked to be taken to Cunupia.
However, upon reaching Enterprise, the driver diverted to Boodram Street.
The driver and passenger announced a hold-up, and the victim said she was robbed of her gold jewelry, handbag, cash, cellphone and clothing which she had purchased from a store.
She was ordered to exit the car and was left at the roadside.
The victim made a report to the Chaguanas Police Station, and a party of police officers of the Chaguanas CID and Central Division Task Force went on enquiries.
Police said they intercepted the car in Longdenville and held the two suspects.
The stolen items were recovered.
The suspects are expected to appear on identification parades in connection with similar crimes.
