Robocop on housebreaking charge

By Susan Mohammed

SELWYN "Robocop" Alexis appeared in court yesterday charged with housebreaking.

He was granted bail by a magistrate. Alexis, 46, of Cashew Gardens, Chaguanas, appeared before Magistrate Gillian Scotland in the Chaguanas Magistrates' Court.

Scotland read the charge, in which it is alleged that Alexis broke into a house in Longdenville with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Constable Gopaul of Cunupia Police Station laid the charge.

Alexis pleaded not guilty to the offence. Police prosecutor Inspector Joey Samaroo objected to bail on the grounds that a trace of Alexis' criminal records was not yet completed.

Alexis' attorney, Joseph Honore, made an appeal for bail, saying Alexis was a father of four and a businessman.

Magistrate Scotland granted $85,000 bail with a surety and ordered Alexis to return to court on December 17.
