Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) president general, Ancel Roget, has accused State-owned oil company Petrotrin of sacrificing lower-level employees to cover up mistakes made by top management.
Roget was responding to the suspension of several employees in connection with the December 17 oil spill at the port at Pointe-a-Pierre.
He said, “I do not have the full details, but I understand they are lower level employees. I will have a full report soon. But our position is that the company is still protecting those persons in high management who are responsible for this. If anybody needs to be suspended, it should be the superintendent and those in charge of the port.”
Roget said reports and recommendations state that the lines should have been changed and that was not the responsibility of lower level employees.
“And I am waiting with bated breath to see who is being suspended and when they will begin to suspend the right persons,” he said.
