Rowley gives budget response today
Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley replies to the Budget presentation of the Minister of Finance at 10 a.m. today in the House of Representatives, Tower D, International Waterfront Centre, Port of Spain.
Rowley has been meeting a team of persons who are working on his reply which would be two hours long, the same length as the Minister of Finance's presentation.
Sources said yesterday among the things the Opposition Leader is expected to highlight in his third Budget reply are the fact that the Minister of Finance, Larry Howai, gave no account or review of what was promised in last year's budget, and whether what was promised last year was delivered.
Rowley is also expected to focus on the fact that expenditure continues to increase along with a huge deficit, without the Government presenting a comprehensive plan for the future direction of the country of the calibre of Vision 2020. However some members of the People's National Movement (PNM) team, including Rowley and Colm Imbert, are expected to leave the Parliament at around 7 p.m. to speak at a public meeting at Piggott Corner, Belmont, on the budget.
The PNM has held such meetings at Piggott Corner for a number of years now.
