Police Social and Welfare Association president Ag Insp Anand Ramesar suffered serious injuries when his car overturned along the Solomon Hochoy Highway yesterday.
Ramesar was driving his black Toyota RAV4 SUV north, near the Claxton Bay overpass, when the accident occurred at around 11.30 a.m.
His wife, British-American Insurance attorney Vanessa Friday-Ramesar, who was seated in the front passenger seat, suffered minor injuries.
Michael Seales, secretary general of the Police Social and Welfare Association, said: “He (Ramesar) was driving along the highway when the vehicle hydroplaned. He regained control of it, picked up a skid and then it flipped a couple times.”
Seales said the couple, who live in Princes Town, were headed to their workplaces in Port of Spain.
The Ramesars, parents of two children, were assisted by fire officers and passers-by. They were taken to the San Fernan-
do General Hospital.
Ramesar, 42, suffered a broken pelvis.
“It is serious. They are still treating him, and they are deciding the possibility of whether they have to operate or not. There are no other broken bones. He is conscious, in a cheerful mood, but in excruciating pain.
“His wife is complaining about pain in the shoulder, but they have not assessed her X-rays yet,” Seales said.
Mon Repos police are investigating.
