A 34-year-old man is currently warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex following a robbery in Curepe on Friday night.
Police reported that at about 11.15 p.m. the victim, who resides at Mon Repos Road, San Fernando, had parked his black Mitsubushi Triton motor vehicle at the corner of Rapsey and Evans Street, Curepe.
As he exited the vehicle, he was approached by two men who announced a robbery.
None of the men, police were told, were brandishing weapons at the time, and as a result, they were ignored by the victim, who continued to walk towards his destination.
Without warning, one of the men pulled out a firearm and shot the 34-year-old man in his upper left back.
The victim fell to the ground, and the two assailants made good their escape in the parked Triton.
The victim’s relatives contacted the police and the emergency health services, and he was rushed to the medical complex. Up to late yesterday, he was said to be in a critical condition.
PC DeSouza is continuing inquiries.
