PAN and mas are expected to converge tomorrow night in San Fernando as Carnival celebrations continue in the southern city.
Head of the San Fernando Carnival Committee and San Fernando Deputy Mayor Junia Regrello yesterday told the Sunday Express that this year Monday night mas and the pan competition will both begin at 7 p.m.
In the past, the night mas begun after the pan playing.
But yesterday Regrello said that for 2014, “We have merged both things and we have them running simultaneously from 7 p.m.”
Also tomorrow Jouvert is expected to start at 4 a.m.
Regrello said although there have been issues related to funding, all systems were in place for the events for Carnival Monday and Tuesday.
He said about 30 mas bands are expected to compete over those two days.
“We are organised as best as we can. We still have some issues with funding but all seems well so far,” he said.
The deputy mayor said that meetings were held with stakeholders and “the police, in particular, have been extremely helpful and supportive”.
He said he did not anticipate any problem that would require officers having to use force as he expected people to adhere to the rules and guidelines of the law and help make San Fernando Carnival safe.
Regrello was appreciative of the support that had been received at the city’s Carnival events including the Pre-Dimanche Gras show.
He was also in high praise of the representation of costumes and pansides from the southern city at recently held national events. Regrello said he was looking forward to further successes from them over the remainder of the season.
