Sando church elevated to cathedral

SOME 225 years after its construction, the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in San Fernando has been elevated to the status of Cathedral.

A special mass was held on Wednesday to commemorate the church's elevation to the status of a Pro Cathedral. This effectively means that it will be the temporary seat of administration for Archbishop Joseph Harris, since the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Port of Spain has been closed for restoration.

The historic ceremony was witnessed by a wide cross section of the community which included Mayor Ravi Muradali, Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitzroy Frederick, and members of the clergy from different parts of the Archdiocese.
