Sat: A courageous move

By Anna Ramdass

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is a courageous leader and a woman of mettle to fire Glenn Ramadharsingh from her Cabinet, says Secretary General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha (SDMS) Sat Maharaj.

Maharaj had called for Ramadharsingh’s resignation following allegations of misconduct against him by Caribbean Airlines Ltd (CAL) flight attendant Ronelle Laidlow.

Speaking to the Express by phone last night, Maharaj said, “The Prime Minister is responsible for the conduct of her Government. She has demonstrated that she is not afraid to take action, even if it is someone close to you.”

He added: “I think we should congratulate her for her strength in the administration of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago because I know the families are close, the Ramadharsingh family is close to the Prime Minister.

“For her to take that action, I strongly believe she is a good administrator, top of her game and it will help in strengthening the belief that this is a good Government to govern our country.”

He continued: “Only last week a PNM minister who died, he was on the record for saying ‘all of we thief’ and no action was taken against him, it’s quite heartening to see that this Prime Minister will take action and ensure that the right thing is done.”

Former government minister Jack Warner who resigned last year following allegations of financial impropriety had also called for Ramadharsingh to be fired.

He told the Express last night that he was disappointed that the Prime Minister took so long to take action.

“I’m disappointed that it took her so long but I guess in the end she did the correct thing,” said Warner.

Warner said further that there will be more firings to come.

“There are four of them who will have to be given walking papers, I wouldn’t call their names, but they are all members of the cabal,” said Warner.
