SECURITY is now being provided to the judge and several attorneys involved in the Vindra Naipaul-Coolman murder trial, as a result of the shooting death, this morning, of senior Counsel Dana Seetahal, who was one of the prosecutors in the trial.
At about 12:05 a.m. Seetahal was in her Volkswagen SUV driving along Hamilton-Holder Street, Woodbrook, when her vehicle was forced to a stop when a Nissan Wingroad pulled across its path. A second vehicle, a panel van, pulled alongside Seetahal’s vehicle, and several men got out and began firing on Seetahal. She died at the scene.
The trial, expected to resume tomorrow, began two months ago in the Hall of Justice Port of Spain and is being heard by Justice Malcolm Holdip. Seetahal was one of the prosecutors along with senior counsels Israel Khan and Gilbert Peterson, and attorneys Joy Balkaran and Kelly Thompson.
The Express has been told that security is now being provided Khan, Peterson and Justice Holdip. The twelve accused have 21 defence attorneys.
Contacted for comment, Khan said he had no immediate comment to make.
Express High Court reporter Rickie Ramdass said the trial began March 24, and that Seetahal last week re-examined State witness Rennie Coolman.
