SECURITY arrangements are expected to be heightened around Hyatt Regency hotel on Wrightson Road, Port of Spain where the third High Level Dialogue of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) opens today.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is scheduled to be keynote speaker at the event, which will involve ministers of National Security and law enforcement and senior officials from the 15 Caricom-member states, the Dominican Republic, and the United States of America.
The US delegation is expected to be led by Deputy Secretary of State William Joseph Burns, who will also deliver an address at the opening ceremony, which is scheduled to commence at 9 a.m.
The CBSI is a high-level meeting which provides the opportunity for partner countries to assess the objectives and accomplishments of the initiative on an annual basis.
The event was first held in Washington DC in May, 2010 and the second in the Bahamas in November last year. —Keino Swamber
