The Seven Nights Jamboree, which has been held for the past 33 years by the Rastafarian organisation, The 12 Tribes of Israel, begins tonight at the Belmont Community Centre, Jerningham Avenue, Belmont.
The Jamboree, which is popularly known as 'seven nights', offers a nightly fare of conscious reggae music played by some of the most popular local selectors in this genre. In fact, the tradition has developed in which lovers of steelband music who also love reggae music take a cool walk over to the Belmont Centre from the Queen's Park Savannah, after taking in the Panorama finals, which take place on the final Saturday before the Carnival celebrations.
This year the "seven nights" takes place on February 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15 and 16. The selectors include Twelve Tribes of Israel Sounds, Majestic, Royalty, Lion King, Jahstar Int, System Rebel, Jah Sound, Judah International, Black Chariot, Solid Rock, Gad Gold and many more.
