Shooting charge: businessman gets bail

A BUSINESSMAN charged with shooting at a man to cause him grievous bodily harm apppeared before the Chaguanas court on Thursday.

Siewdath Ragbir, 51, managing director of RS Pavers, is the holder of licensed firearm, defence attorney Taradath Singh said as Ragbir faced Chaguanas Senior Magistrate Gillian Scotland. 

Ragbir pleaded not guilty to the allegation that at St Helena Junction, Piarco on January 18, he shot at Jeremy Gokool to cause him grievous bodily harm.

Defence attorney Taradath Singh told the court that Ragbir lived at St Helena, Piarco and had never before had a matter before the court. Singh said the alleged incident arose after an attack against his client.

Scotland placed Ragbir on $75,000 bail which had to be approved by the Clerk of the Peace. He was also given the option of obtaining bail by presenting a cheque in the sum of  $10,000.

Ragbir was ordered to return to court on May 8.
