In the lead-up to Carnival 2014 the NGC Bocas Lit Fest is offering the chance for budding lyricists and poets to practice the art of songwriting.
Master of the calypso lyric and extempo performance Short Pants will lead the way in a three-hour workshop to explore writing lyrics to tell our stories and to uncover the craft behind T&T’s winning Carnival songs.
The NGC Bocas Lit Fest, in collaboration with the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (Tuco), invites the public to this Carnival lyrics-writing workshop at the National Library of Trinidad and Tobago (Nalis) on Saturday, February 1, from 1 p.m.
Short Pants, a regular finalist in the National Extempo Competition, will bring to adults the same insights he does to young lyricists at the annual Tuco calypso-writing workshops.
Festival director Marina Salandy-Brown says, “This workshop should interest poets, songwriters, journalists, students, calypsonians and members of the public who have creative interest in the written and spoken word.
“Songs, prose, poetry are all expressions of ideas and emotions, and we are pleased to be able to help make the connections in people’s minds.”
Advance registration is necessary and places are available on a first-come-first-served basis for up to 25 participants. A $40 fee is payable on the day at the venue.
