Minister of Food Production Devant Maharaj has challenged the media to find evidence that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is not in full control of her government.
In a release from his office yesterday Maharaj joined his Ministerial colleagues in throwing support behind Persad-Bissessar in light of recent allegations by former minister Verna St Rose Greaves that Persad-Bissessar is being led by others.
The release described the allegation as "unfounded, false, scandalous and malicious rumour" that has been placed in the public domain.
"Minister Maharaj wants to categorically put on record that Prime Minister, the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar is a very sober-minded person and makes all her decisions with the conviction and will of a leader who represents all the people of this blessed nation of ours.
Indeed Senator Maharaj challenges the media to find the evidence that will substantiate these ridiculous claims that have now become the fodder for many talkshow hosts," the statement said.
The release also questioned why St Rose Greaves chose to make the "spurious and unfounded" allegations against Persad-Bissessar more than a year after she was dismissed as a Cabinet Minister.
"Why didn't she make the statements and allegations while she was a Minister? Certainly, nothing was wrong with the Prime Minister when Ms St Rose Greaves accepted her position as a Minister.
So the question remains is why now such statements? Is it really a case of sour grapes or something more?"
