FRIENDS of drummer Mahadeo "Papee" Ramkissoon will host an evening of Indian Classical singing to raise funds for his medical expenses.

Ramkissoon suffered a stroke and is in need of urgent medical attention.

Indian Classical Singers and Drummers Association public relations officer, Dubraj Persad, said Ramkissoon was a veteran drummer, who accompanied many local Indian classical singers.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Couva Multipurpose Complex (opposite the Couva District Hospital) on January 27.

Persad said, "He suffered a stroke and underwent surgery to the head. He has to do another surgery and we want to assist in his medical bills. Mahadeo is in his 40s and gave a lot to the art-form. He has lost his speech and mobility on the left side of his body. "

The show begins at 3 p.m. and will feature singers including Balliram Bala Ramroop, Jameer Hosein, Rakesh Yankaran, Moonilal Gildharie, Dubraj Persad, Devanand Sookram, Arjoon Samlal, Lily Ramcharan, Rawle Ramjitsingh, Manmohan Singh, Sohan Gildharie, Ramesh Basdeo, Manmohan Gosyne and others.

Persad said drummers Deo Nanan, Ashton Beharry, Bobby Maharaj, Rishi Ragbir, Randy Balkaran, Vinod Gangapersad, Ravi Persad and Bindra Bachan among others will also provide entertainment.

Tickets are being sold at Praimsingh's, Chaguanas and Curepe and members of The Indian Classical Singers and Drummers Association at $30.
