Simple Sound pans stolen in Arima

By Gyasi Gonzales

SIMPLE SOUNDS steel orchestra was up to yesterday afternoon counting its losses in the midst of preparing for Panorama 2013 following the theft of a number of pans between Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

According to Peggy Fortune, a senior member of the band, around 4 p.m. on Wednesday band members showed up at the Simple Sounds pan theatre on Pinto Road, Arima and found that it had been broken into.

Fortune said several pans were missing, including two pairs of double tenors, six tenor pans and pieces of the band's drum set.

Even more pans were discovered stolen that afternoon, but some of the items had been recovered in a vegetable garden located at the back of the band's practice area.

Fortune told the Express they have since commenced their practice sessions for the up-coming Panorama competition, but were worried about how their performance will compare to other bands with some of their pans missing.

"We need our pans," she said.

Officers of the Pinto Road Police Post are continuing investigations.
