A 46-year-old man will appear before a Siparia magistrate this morning, charged with possession of illegal ammunition and drugs.

The man was arrested at his Nagessar Trace, Penal, home on Saturday.

Officers attached to the Siparia CID executed a warrant at the man's home around 8.30 p.m.

Police said a quantity of 12-gauge and 16-gauge cartridges were recovered. The officers also found packets of marijuana hidden in a cupboard.

The man, who was at home when police arrived, was arrested and taken to Siparia Police Station, where he was charged with the offence.

Siparia police are also investigating a case of arson in the district on Saturday.

Fire officers responded to a report that a small wooden house was ablaze around 10.30 a.m.

Norris Glaude, 59, told police that the house belonged to his nephew, who is serving a prison sentence, police said.

No one was inside the house when it ignited. Police believe the fire was deliberately set.
