Sisters charged with assaulting officers

By Nikita Braxton-Benjamin

TWO sisters appeared in court yesterday charged with seven offences, including that they assaulted police officers who came to their home.

Lisa and Janelle Belgrove both pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.

He read the charges to Lisa Belgrove, 39, that last Friday she allegedly assaulted constables Marlon Stoute and Kevin Sukram during her apprehension, resisted arrest and used insulting language to Stoute.

It was alleged that Janelle Belgrove, 31, assaulted Sukram, resisted Stoute during her arrest and used insulting language toward him.

The incident allegedly occurred last Friday at their Caratal Road, Gasparillo home.

The single mothers of children ranging between 14 years and two months, denied the charges.

They claimed that they were attacked by the police officers who came to their house with a warrant in search of a relative. Wellington adjourned the cases to April 3 and transferred the matters to the San Fernando Fifth Court.
